Whatever analysts may say, in my humble opinion, the Tata sons have the wherewithal to integrate jaguar-land rover into it’s current portfolio in India as it still doesn’t have any car to challenge the likes of Mercedes Benz’s M class and other high end SUV’s. It is here that the Land Rovers might come in and give Tata the major fillip in India and other developing countries. Also Jaguar can be postioned as Tata’s high end offering keeping the Jaguar brand intact.

Can anybody tell me why do we see TATA as an Indian company? In this world of globalization, the political boundaries have lost their sacred meaning.
It is the Jaguar which is going to benefit from this as their employment will remain intact, not Indian common man. The same mistake we committed with Arcelor when Mittal wanted to buy it. Mittal who has citizenship of some other country, don’t sell me that dual-citizenship crap, only felt like Indian when he needed some political pressure.
So it is nice for Tata and its investors, not for Indian common man for whom there is no difference.
And Jayprashanth, you can still buy Jaguar in India, just be ready to shell out many lakhs as the import duty which will be still there as Jaguar will be manufactured outside India.

This deal will certainly put Indian Automobile industry on world’s map. And I feel that this year is turning out to be a great one for Tata.
And they may comment , how difficult it will be for Tata , but I believe that Tata can pull it off, though it won’t be easy to handle such a big name but it is certainly something TATA knew before they bought these brands.

Arjun it’s not about how Indian common man will benifit from it, it’s about making country proud.
It’s just like winning in some sport event, good for contry’s name , but not something that will effect Indian common man

I don’t undestand why the Tata’s should always buy something abroad that would affect the common man. Basically the Jaguar is a strategic acquisition for the Tata’s which will give them leverage in the Global markets and will help them take their products global. So why do you expect it to affect the common folks of India??? Beats me!!!

Well said Nishant,
But can you tell me one reason that why do we Indians always need such reasons to be proud? Should we be ashamed of ourselves, because I have not seen anywhere in US media reports like Pepsi Co made USA proud or something similar?
Man, till when should we try to cure our problems through these kinds of palliatives? Anyway maybe I can never appreciate your viewpoint as I don’t like to identify people with these artificial measure, they are artificial for me. I prefer to believe in utopia of world citizen.

Because “Jaguar is now an Indian beast,” said the Times of India. It didn’t say Tata, but India. I really don’t have any problems with Tata but I do have problems seeing Tata as India. For me India only exists for Indians, because if there are no Indians there is no India. I know my logic is stupid but it is mine.

Don’t compare India and USA. To be proud of something dsnt mean that you were ashamed of something previously
I don’t know what you do , but if you are successful then arn’t your parents proud of you? I bet they are, and that dsn’t mean that they were ashamed of anything previously. But it is always a good thing to see someone among you rise. It’s as good for me as Ambani’s rise to top of the list of richest people.
And as for the Indain beast thing, anything owned by an Indian company can be and is considered as Indian.
It’s just a tag but a quite applicable. And there indeed IS no India without Indians, Ratan Tata is Indian , TATA is Indian and now same goes for JLR, it is Indian now. Nomatter if there operations will be in India or in UK.
you can compare it to a couple who gave birth to a kid abroad, that kid will be Indian, no matter where he/she lives.

Nishant you have hit the nil on its head.
Yeah I do believe to be proud of something you need to be ashamed of something. Because for me good only exists if there is bad, otherwise everything is good and good loses it’s meaning. Yeah I do belong to those different people for whom everything have a meaning in relation to something.
I do nothing, and my parents can only be proud of something. LOL. Man extending above stated reasoning further, anybody can be proud of something only if there is anti-something. My parents can be proud of my success because I have not failed. I know it sounds stupid but not to me, maybe that is how you become intelligent by my giving examples of stupidity.
Further, I know a guy who was born in US to Indian parents, and he really hates when somebody calls him Indian. Why? Because he just does not feel like Indian, he knows nothing about India except being forced to bow to every person a day older to him. That is India for him. I really don’t like him to be called Indian.
What makes you proud of Ambani joining richest-people list? Are you a relative of him? I am proud of everybody being there as I believe all of them to be humans as me ( if anyone of them is not please do tell me).
I rest my case here, ne-shant.

When we see at India wrt to world then he is related to me, related as an Indian.
And why should I be proud if someone in my relation is making a big name for himself? just because his name in a way is related to me, in this case TATA is related to India, so i feel proud when any Indian makes his name count in this big big world.
Again, I dont know if you feel good when Indian cricket team/ vishwanathan anand / others win any tournament or event. But I do, so do millions, just because these people reprsent India internationally. and if you can be proud for a guy making millions on feild by winning then there’s nothing wrong in being happy and feeling proud when Indian guy buys one of the biggest names in Auto industry.
and if Indian people making it big at international world (be it corporates or players) then I too rest my argument :)

It is a matter of pride that India is going like a juggernaut. We have shown to the world that empire can strike back too and all those colonizers that we are in no way behind them.
The time has come that they accept and appreciate our genius.

You asked why we feel proud if an Indian company acquires a foreign marquee and why don’t the Americans feel proud of Pepsico?
Who said the American’s don’t? It is only you who think the American’s don’t. Any American worth his can of coke will first ask for coke to drink even when he is away from the US of A. Why, because it is his/her way to connect with his nation, consciously or unconsciously. And i have personally seen a lot of them doing so. Now a few examples of American pride. Zippo lighters proudly proclaims that it is ”Proudly American”
The corvette- ”sheer american muscle” and McDonalds and even KFC always display their American roots prominently because they are proud to be what they are. And they don’t want to run away from what they are by saying they are global citzens and stuff!!! And if you think you don’t give a damn about you being an Indian and talk all of this global citizen crap, which is certainly crap to me, you mau choose to do so. Because that is your fundamental right this land has given you. But don’t you question everybody else’s patriotism here because we are proud to be what we are and that is Being Indian!!!

Sir, you opened my eyes and after reading your enlightening comment I really got disturbed. I have got so disturbed that I have asked my parents to sell off the Maruti car ( I read somewhere that a Japanese company owns it now) which we have and buy a Jaguar. They told me that it is not possible to match the service network of Maruti, but after reading your comment I won’tbe fooled by such things.
And I like americans am also worth my glass of lassi, and will also try to only buy Indian drinks. I don’t care whether campa-cola is not available, at least Vijay Malliya is there.
And yeah I have decided that I will only have Chola-Butara whenever I go to Pizza Hut or KFC. And I hope that all the young Indians get some reasonable thoughts like you and start wearing dhoti and kurta, the true Indian dress. We need to be reminded about our culture and pride, and we all Indians are proud of you for your great work in this regard.
And I think we have forgetton the great work done by IPL, they not bought a company like Tata but bought whole humans like cows. Adam or Brian, all are bought. We all Indians are proud of you for your great work in this regard.
I am further grateful to you because you have reminded me that I am an Indian before being a human. I had forgetton this important fact had not you bought me on right path.
Jai ho, you further told me that by seeing the Tata’s making it big, we get hope that someday, even we too can make it big in this world. A fool like me had forgetton that we can’t until we see such examples. Thank you again for bringing me on right path.
I am so inspired by you that I have asked my IT friends to make some Macro-Hard software so that we can start using swadeshi things. I am really sorry that after checking about my computer I realised that most of its part are not from India. I request all companies to promote something Indian fast.
I even reprimanded my friend who is quite ‘desi’ and felt that the game of cricket is not Indian. How dare he? Don’t he know that how much Indian it is. I have asked him to stop being a fool by being passionate about kho-kho or kabbadi and start following cricket. I hope better sense prevails in his mind also.
He asked what is the definition of Indian, and I am at loss and that is why I am here troubling you again. He wishes to know from when does Indian thing start, in respect of dateline. Can we call Parsi’s Indian ? If yes, can we call George Orwell, our Bihari boy, Indian, or Rudyard kipling Indian?
You have told me that how much I have misused my right of freedom of expression by opening my mouth to utter the most-non-sense. My apologies for commiting such a blunder.
And Ni-shant, I am sorry that you understood my comments as questioning your partriotism. I had and have no such intention. I in my foolish state of mind, in which I was before I read graet minds, just asked that do boundaries still exist distinguishing betwenn Indian and foreign. You need not trouble yourself further, you have already answered more than sufficiently to a fool like me.
And I am very proud of Indian, it is a different matter that still I am at loss of words if one can asks me for definition of it but don’t you worry I am hitting gym for a long time.

Contrary to name-you are not the whole country. Lol.
All people don’t think likewise and should not be forced to. If you don’t want any kind of different view than your presented ‘gospel-truth’, please do write it below your post. I would have saved a lot of time.
Contrary to your thoughts, and even logically, my purpose is not to prove anybody a fool. Had I taken everybody to be a fool I hadn’t written so much explaining my viewpoint or perception, because you only discuss with people who are of equal intelligence. Please don’t prove me wrong.
And please do correct me if I am wrong, because I take blogging as a medium where story is developed by readers by presenting their different viewpoints. It is not, at least for me, where you can only appreciate their thinking and say nothing contrary.
I loved Nishants and Jai’s viewpoints because they tried to logically argue, not unreasonably judge. Of course if you deem the viewpoint not worthy your reaction, don’t present.
Why are you worried of being proved wrong? Somebody questioned your intelligence?
Finally one last question on your last ”.... ...”, are you straight?

and Monsieur Arjun who is the paragon of values bestowed, I really don’t know what should I address you with, but surely you are a walking utopia. as for as the debate here is concerned, it has not remained a healthy one, sorry to say and the very point you rigged with my name you really showed me what opinion you have and what you can feel to be proud of.
secondly, I am not afraid of the contrary opinion nor doubtful about my caliber or lacking confidence. Ppl have different opinion so is yours and mine, nothing new, but to get personal is not what you’re harping as a utopia or your hyperbolic or so called values that you cherish and feel proud of.

and to answer your last question just the same old line used thousand times ” nothing is good or bad thinking makes it so” It’s up to you the way you take it.
Jay said rightly, this is away from the real debate and gruesome...so no more words.. thanks jay... good night mates, sweet dreams!!!!!!!!!!!?????

Arjun, i first thought that your were a person with a different view, someone who thinks differently, atleast totally opposite to what I am. But now you are sounding like some kid who loves to be against a mob, because somewhere he read that if you want to be successful then think different.
It’s ok to think different, it’s ok to argue and it’s even ok to get agressive while arguing. But it is not ok to for a grown up to act like a kid and start hanging his tounge out when he can’t find words to defend his thoughts. That’s something you are doing.
we just said that it makes us feel proud when some Indian excels, you said it dsnt make you feel proud but who are you to question our feelings when no one is questioning yours?
If you can’t respect others then atleast learn to shut up when you are required to, trust me, it will be really helpful, iuf not to you then atleast to others.

@Arjun is right in saying that TATA is a multinational and the country of origin is a matter of little consequence in such cases. @ Nishant and others who argue that the deal is a matter to be proud of are right in their own sense, that is if they need so petty a reason to make them prouder of India.
Anyway from totally a financial standpoint, the deal could do a lot of good to TATAs eventually. Not only will this make them an auto company with such a large diversity that they sell a Rs 1 lakh car to a car costing Rs 1 crore. It would put them firmly in on the map of global players (in the auto industry) and will open up a host of options for other acquisitions.

Ppl have different opinion so is yours and mine, nothing new, but to get personal is not what you’re harping as a utopia or your hyperbolic or so called values that you cherish and feel proud of.
and thirdly, as you mentioned above ” you just can’t force your opinion on the others” yes very right and in the next line you did exactly what you criticized others for and I feel... leave it.
and to answer your last question just the same old line used thousand times ” nothing is good or bad thinking makes it so” It’s up to you the way you take it.
