IPL will help the sporting scene of India in general. Of course, as Desh has pointed out that it will not be directly, but by changing the mindset of viewers who will stop scorning games as wastage of time. This may not happen soon. But like cricket which in starting was dubbed as elite game now draws majority of its superstars from lower-income background, cricket may keep on being cynosure but will slowly develop the interest of people in other games also.

It is just goig to be a matter of time before the BCCI is going to lose control over cricket as the clubs are going to breakaway once they start making more money than the BCCI itself. This happened with football the English Premier league and the IPL will most probably follow suit.

IPL and football are two differnt things. And i believe that growth in one sport definitely will not harm the other sport. This time if it is cricket next time it may be football.

At the end of the day, investing in sports is only a business venture for the big firms. Cricket gets the investment as it is gives returns. The problem is not so much with just the sport, but also players. Cricket is played at the top level by barely 9 countries, while it is totally different in football. So getting to the top is a lot more difficult and only success in that sport brings in money.
IPL will have zero-impact on football. If anything it might further take away young talent from soccer. I love the ’beautiful game’, but neither the state of the game in India nor the way we pay it is beautiful.
